LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A woman who survived a wreck over the weekend that killed her husband and injured another woman is now charged with felony DUI involving death, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
SCHP has charged 24-year-old Amanda Dickert with felony DUI involving death. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 4:00 p.m. Saturday on Highway 14 near Wilson Road in Laurens County.
Troopers said a 2008 Kia driven by 24-year-old Amanda Dickert collided with a 1979 Chrysler driven by 56-year-old Phyllis Lyons. The vehicles were heading in opposite directions at the time.
Laurens County Coroner Francis Nichols said Dickert was traveling with her husband, Joshua Wayne Dickert, 26, of Whitmire. Rescue crews said Dickert had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Joshua Dickert died at the scene from injuries to the neck and upper chest, Nichols said. Officers said Dickert was not wearing a seat belt.
Amanda Dickert was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt. She was charged late Monday afternoon and is being held in the Laurens County Detention Center.
Investigators said Lyons was treated at Laurens Emergency Room and later released.
